More than 30 global organizations came together at the United Nations to form the International Fire Safety Standards Coalition and develop a consistent set of high-level standards that will inform the design, construction and management of fire safety in buildings. Currently, the groups say differences in materials testing and certification, as well as building regulations, create confusion and heighten risk.
The universal rules will classify and define fire safety standards at the project, state, regional, national and international levels. The coalition will own the standards and work with professionals to deliver them locally.
